Volunteering

The Goodfella's Project

The Goodfella's Project is a non profit organization that helps low income families. This is a student led, charitable organization that has completed many projects that have helped the lives of those in poor situations.

Active Faith food drive - At the local Active Faith center in South Lyon we worked with the employees and other volunteers to organize food. This food was categorized and separated to be put on trays for storage and to send out to local families. Active Faith feeds many people in our own city of South Lyon who are in need of help.

Summer Service Camp - There was a day camp organized by boys at St. Mary's, the Goodfella's Project, and the Caleb White Project for children from shelters in Detroit and Pontiac. The children were picked up in school buses and brought to St. Mary High School to spend a day with all of the volunteers. During this day camp we got to play basketball and other games with them, go swimming with them in the lake, play on the playground, and eat lunch with them. I have never seen so many over joyed kids and it brought me more happiness than I can ever explain.

Genesis House - We spent an evening out at this shelter in Detroit. Throughout the evening we played with the children and talked with the women there. We were also able to bring them a huge pizza dinner which is something they get very rarely living in a shelter. All of the women and mothers were so appreciative and were so happy to see us play with their children.

Earth Day clean up - On Earth day, we spent around 3 hours walking up and down a street in our own city of South Lyon. We picked up all of the garbage we could see on the side of the road and filled around 20 bags with trash.
